Tobago Hillclimb 2022

Kester Johnson

Last weekend we were in Tobago attaining TTRCs “Tobago Hillclimb 2022” and it was awesome. This event started with us supporting Devon’s Supra in the drift part of the event but ended up also giving support to Nikhil Nanan B13 SR16 MaxxECU on pump gas which also lead to me giving a hand to Vyshall Nandlel’s Yacco Nissan GTiR also controlled by a MaxxECU tuned by Konk. And in the last minute, Tobago own Reinaldo Solomon showed up after fixing his gearbox that same, day in his S15 MaxxECU.

TTASA Drift Practice Wet...

Kester Johnson

This past weekend was our first full day at a TTASA’s Drift event and my word I was empressed. There times that I did not even see my photographer :) At this event, We had two cars out both running MaxxECU Street ECUs that happened to have two great pilots, Roger Hutcheon and Devon Bartholomew.

First I have to say to the team of Roger Hutcheon, very very very will done… Let us be honest, if Kasey Ramoutar can help out and not because he was the only one that was small enough to fix this the engine bay to reach a nut… you having some performance. Now really, all these guys got together to make sure the car was back of after the turbo went in the first run, the day belongs to you guys… Thank you.

Some words from Devon. Now you have to understand that devon was the first person to buy a MaxxECU in Trinidad and Tobago, so there may be some bias… facts: it was on 18 and the ramp rate on the turbo was increased… :) just saying…

With a new coilover setup the car seemed a lot stiffer and a lot grippier. In fact, the car felt as though the power dropped because it didn’t spin the tyres as easily.
Some 255-35-18’s at 340 TW, I called Kester and asked to double check the map ahead of the drift practice. He said yup 17 psi in 3rd and sent me on my way. I drove onto the track and realized immediately the antilag was set more aggressive. I warmed the tyres and prepared for a grippy drift session, i.e. overworking the clutch to get what I want.
1 testing lap led to 5 continuous laps, which concluded only due to the delaminated death of a tyre. I have never been in such glee. I flicked the car harder and harder each time, not having to watch a gauge. I barely heard the antilag but I knew it was there as I didn’t have to clutch kick to wake the car.
When rain drenched the track, it was more of the same....but with the AC on 😈😈. I have never been happier with performance. I probably did over 30 laps at WOT, sending the fuel tank from full to vapor, needing a top up from a keg just to reach home.
All in all, the claims of others “but Kester could’ve made more power” falls on deaf ears here. I’m ecstatic.
